A book review of:

I May Be Wrong But I Doubt It
               by Charles Barkley

"Those of us who were given these great talents and unique gifts by God have to speak up and put it out there, even if it isn't popular..."

About former NBA great Charles Barkley, Michael Wilbon wrote, "Basketball has always been just the half of it with Barkley." The other half of it is a man whose sense of justice and fairness make it impossible for him to remain quiet.

Charles Barkley was on eleven NBA All-Star teams. When he retired in 2000, only Wilt Chamberlain had finished a pro career with more points, rebounds and assists. And Chamberlain was eight inches taller.

In I May Be Wrong But I Doubt It "Sir Charles" talks about his career and his life as a professional athlete. Beyond that, he shares his outlook on the world and his constant concern with unfairness off the court.

Sports books are not for everyone, but this book is about more than sports. Charles Barkley is an observant soul. If you'd like to get to know him, this book is the place to begin.

From I May Be Wrong But I Doubt It:

--"The legacy of slavery is that nothing was passed down. We're still at the point where a successful black person is taking care of, or at least helping out, the previous generation of his family, instead of the other way around."

--"There will always be great players here and there, in this sport or that sport. And we all love seeing that and celebrating it and debating it. But those of us who were given these great talents and unique gifts by God have to speak up and put it out there, even if it isn't popular…"

--"The punishment for priests who confess to having had sex with minors, and for priests proven to have had sex with minors, is really simple: They ought to be put in jail… How can you claim the moral authority any church needs if the people who are supposed to be leading the church are violating little kids?"

--[About his home state of Alabama] "We always say, 'Thank God for Mississippi and Arkansas or we'd be dead last in everything.'"

--"One of the reasons sports is so important is that one of the few times people forget about prejudice and bigotry--their own--is when they are dealing with sports or entertainment."
